Part 2: The DNA Test in the lab
The DNA test will determine the biological relationship between a child and a possible father. To understand how, you need to know a few facts. One is that a person’s DNA is the same in all cells and does not change starting from conception. That is why you can easily collect the samples, and the child can be tested at any age. Another important fact is that 50% of a child's DNA composition comes from the biological mother, and 50% from the biological father. In your DNA paternity test, we compare the child’s DNA to your DNA to see if half of the child’s DNA matches yours. We don't require the mother's sample, however, there aren't any additional fees if her samples are included.
This is all good in theory, but what do we really do to make sure your results are accurate? Our highly trained laboratory technicians analyze each sample TWICE, from start to finish. In fact, the dual testing procedures are conducted by two laboratory teams independent of each other. This means you can be completely confident that your results are accurate and reliable because they are compared, then approved, by our Ph.D. staff.
Definitive Proof uses the most up-to-date PCR testing methods. PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction. The process creates many copies of specific locations on each tested person's DNA. Our laboratory personnel can then examine each location on everyone’s DNA side-by-side for similarities and differences.
